when it comes to computer hardware, there isn't much i haven't worked with or repaired! my primary interests are in cluster based computing, used for hosting network services, running IBM AIX or GNU/Linux.

The Supermicro Gets Some Upgrades

This was bound to happen, upgrades. I have originally been a little misleading, earlier this machine, while being a dual processor motherboard, I had'nt actually been that rich to afford the second processor. I waited and after a year and 2 months found a good sister cpu off eBay. I found a chip for sale with a simular batchID and close serial number, it runs nicer now (after learning the smp-power-off trick).

I also purchased some PC Power & Cooling Slot-2 heat-sinks and fans. They are very nice low-profile solutions, the fans are quite and they rarely get too hot to touch.

This was also the time for some serious hard drive space. eBay again treated me well on a lot of used drives. Some were bad, but all in all only 2 of the 10 died, the others were placed in a RAID-5 array, ensuring that any more croakers would have a backup drive. This array has been working very good for a long time, the steel enclosure drive arrays are very good at providing sufficent cooling, and keeping available case space and a maximum.
