2008-OneBoard-BuildOff-part2

My FW 2008 One Board Furniture Build-off Part2

Well the cat is out of the bag! I am building a "Pub Table" from my hard maple stick! It is a type of 'occasional table' but mostly its a high-top table we plan to use in our kitchen!

The first new joinery technique i am using is a breadboarding, and in this part i cut the table top and create the breadboard ends! It was fairly straightforward, and i began by making the cheek cuts on my table saw, then nibbling away the rest of the tenon. and finally using my files to clean up each tenon.

The breadboard itself was bored out using my fancy new drill press! I hooked up a shop-vac to suck out the debris, but because the chips were so course they really got embedded in the slot. It took a lot of work to clean out the slot, and cleaning up the ridges with a file and chisel was actually easier!

Finally i returned once again to my trusty file, this time to make sure at least one end of the top fit snuggly into the breadboard, the other will be cleaned up once the top is all glued together. The excess breadboard end will disappear!

The next installment will be uploaded soon, it includes another new joinery technique which i have not used, and my first attempt working with hide glue! There were some problems! Hang in there....
